Sakota's hot shooting sees AEK survive OT against Rosa Radom

ATHENS (Basketball Champions League) - AEK survived another overtime contest with a 96-92 victory over Rosa Radom on Tuesday evening.

AEK took control in overtime, having breathed a sigh of relief as Kevin Punter's potential game winner fell short at the end of regulation.

Mike Green scored six points in overtime, all on free throws, as AEK took a lead two minutes in on a Giannoulis Lanrentzakis triple and managed to hold off Punter and Rosa Radom the rest of the way.

Dimitris Mavroeidis registered a lay up with 31 seconds remaining in regulation to force the extra period as neither team was able to pull away in a game that featured multiple lead changes.

Rosa Radom had led by as many as 11 in the third period but an 14-2 start to the fourth period, including three three-pointers from Dusan Sakota who was on fire from beyond the arc, saw AEK storm right back into the game and set up a thrilling finish.

"It was a difficult game for us against a team that didn't have any wins in our group, but Rosa Radom is a very good team," AEK's Vasilis Xanthopoulos said after the game.

"As you saw today, they played very well. About our team; for one more game we weren't very good, we didn't play well. Mostly on our defence. On our offence we move the ball very well, we had decent stats, but we had to improve on our defence as we have a very difficult schedule."

However, on a positive note, he added:

"Tonight in this game is the first time I saw our teammates staying together for 45 minutes, previous games we were together but not like this and this was a good step for our team to improve."

For AEK, Manny Harris had 18 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, a steal and a block, whilst Dusan Sakota had 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.

Kevin Punter had 23 points to lead Rosa, with Igor Zaytsev having 21, and Michal Sokolowski going for 13 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists.

"Obviously it was a tough loss," Kevin Punter said after the game.

"We kept fighting through all four quarters, we had the lead up until late but then we lost it. We were fortunate enough to push to overtime we just came up short."

Rosa Radom Head Coach Wojciech Kaminski added:

"Congratulations to the wining team and to my players too as we played a really good game.

"Some small mistakes decided the game. It is difficult to say something...we were really close to winning."

AEK climbed back to .500 at 2-2 with the win, meanwhile Rosa Radom are still searching for their first win in Group C.
