Pinar Karsiyaka edge Murcia in overtime

MURCIA (Basketball Champions League) - Pinar Karsiyaka edged UCAM Murcia in overtime with a 96-91 road win on Wednesday.

Jarrod Jones hit the OT-forcing triple with 28 seconds less in regulation, and then in the extra period neither team could gain separation until a Scott Wood corner three put Karsiyaka up 91-87 with less than two minutes to play.

Berk Ugurlu followed with a tough lefty lay up to increase the gap to 6, before Metin Turen came up with a huge offensive putback to stave Murcia off.

David Kennedy was unstoppable going 9-of-14 for 30 points, 13 rebounds and 3 steals off the bench for Karsiyaka, Jarrod Jones had 23 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, and Turen added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

"First of all I want to congratulate to my team," Pinar Karsiyaka Head Coach Aleksandar Trifunović said.

"We are facing a lot of our internal problems and we stepped in this game with one more problem; we're still without a point guard last night - he didn't practice and couldn't play today.

"It's like someone is challenging us to see how much we can go.

"It was a nice game to watch, especially for those who weren't cheering one team. A lot of changing of leads, up and downs, lot of discussions about this and that. Both teams had a chance to win, we simply used our momentum, we had control of the game for the first 27 minutes, then somehow we lost control for 7-8 minutes, then got it back."

Charlon Kloof and Clevin Hannah led Murcia with 21 points each to lead five players into double figures.

"I thought we made too many mistakes," Kloof said.

"Against a good team like this you'll get punished. Turned the ball over, they hit the three, we just have to make sure we limit the mistakes and capitalise on their mistakes; they made mistakes too but we couldn't score or we turned it over.

"...We have to go back to practice and be ready for the next game."

Karsiyaka climbed to a 4-1 record in Group A with the win, with Murcia falling to 2-3 with the loss.
