Filloy dagger gives Avellino huge road win over Besiktas

ISTANBUL (Basketball Champions League) - Ariel Filloy's late three-pointer proved to be the dagger as Sidigas Avellino picked up a huge 86-80 road win over Besiktas Sompo Japan on Wednesday night in Istanbul.

With the score tied at 74 with 3:48 left after a Kyle Weems dunk, Filloy scored 7 points, had 1 assist, 1 rebound and 1 steal in the final 3 and a half minutes, with no play bigger than his stepback dagger three to provide a six point cushion with 17 seconds remaining.

Both teams shot over 50% in the contest, and both sides held double digit leads at various points. Besiktas got the better of the early stages, before Avellino finished the half on a 10-0 run to pull within 1 and then took the lead 10 seconds into the third with a Jason Rich dunk.

A double-digit lead soon followed for the Italians heading into the final quarter, before a fourth quarter comeback from the home side.

Besiktas held Avellino scoreless for the first 6 and a half minutes of the period, whilst reeling off 10 points to tie the game and set up the dramatic finish with Filloy's heroics.

Jason Rich went 9 of 14 for 21 points to top score for the visitors, whilst Filloy finished with 17 and Bruno Fitipaldo had 6 assists to go with his 11 points.

Jon Diebler had 23 points to lead Besiktas, going 7 of 11 from the floor, whilst Sertac Sanli added 17 points and 9 rebounds.
