Estudiantes hold off Bayreuth in OT

BAYREUTH (Basketball Champions League) - Movistar Estudiantes prevailed 90-84 in overtime against medi Bayreuth on Tuesday evening.

After Estudiantes had been dominating early and leading by as many as 23 points, Bayreuth stormed back into the game in the second half and used a late deep three from Gabe York to tie it up and force an extra period.

In overtime, it was all Estudiantes, sparked by Omar Cook they took control of the contest and cruised to the win as Bayreuth never led.

Sylven Landesberg was impressive on his way to 22 points for the Spanish side, whilst Goran Suton had 14 and Alec Brown 13.

"Coming off a loss last week in Champions League, knowing we had to play hard, knowing we were coming against a good team, we worked hard all week," Brown said.

"We came out and had a good start, gave it up a little bit in the second half, got a little uncomfortable I would say, but finished strong. Really proud of the guys for staying with the game and finishing it up."

Nate Linhart had 21 points, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 2 blocks for media Bayreuth, with Gabe York having another solid scoring output with 20 to go with his 6 rebounds and 6 assists.

Both sides are now 3-2, with Estudiantes in third and Bayreuth fourth in Group C.

It was all Estudiantes early; a Dario Brizuela floater to beat the buzzer put them up 29-11 after the opening quarter with the home side having no answers.

Estudiantes' lead was at 50-33 at halftime and the result seemed assured, but Bayreuth had other ideas after the break.

A nice feed inside from Bastien Doreth to to De'Mon Brooks got Bayreuth back within ten, 53-63, with 2:28 left in the third quarter forcing Estudiantes into a timeout, and the comeback was on.

A Gabe York three got it back to single digits, 69-60, just before the end of the third. Steve Wachalski opened up the fourth with another triple as the lead was taken down to six almost instantly, before a tough Gabe York drive brought them to within 4.

A Linhart lefty floater then set the stage for York's deep three to tie up, before Landesburg's potential winner bounced off the rim to force OT, where Estudiantes saw 5 quick points from Cook to take control and get the win.
