Cool-as-ice at the free-throw line Ventspils win at Capo d'Orlando

CAPO D'ORLANDO (Basketball Champions League) - Ventspils dug deep and claimed a 79-68 win at Capo d'Orlando on Tuesday to move into the top four of Group B.

The victory improved the Latvian club's record to 6-7, with PAOK  and Elan Chalon (both 5-7) in action on Wednesday evening.

The Sicilian outfit, which won the first meeting between the sides back on November 14, was coming off heavy defeats at PAOK, at Iberostar Tenerife and at home to Neptunas Klaipeda, yet they played well enough go in front by as many as 9 points.

But Ventspils, who stayed in the contest largely because of their scintillating 22 of 23 (95.65 percent) shooting at the free-throw line, got hot from 3-point range in the final quarter and made enough plays to clinch a vital win.

The visitors made 5 of their 7 3-pointers in the last quarter.

Emmanuel Ubilla was excellent for most of the game for Ventspils and finished with 20 points, 7 assists and 5 rebounds. He was a perfect 9 of 9 at the charity stripe.

Rihards Lomazs was also outstanding, drilling 3 of 4 shots from deep and scoring 15 points. He also had 5 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.
