Varese break ASVEL hearts with last-second triple by Kangur

VARESE (Basketball Champions League) - Kristjan Kangur was held scoreless until the final minute of the game, but connected on five clutch points, including the dagger triple from the corner with 0.7 left to give Varese an 83-82 win over ASVEL.

Kangur's heroics were a perfect way to end a magical night for Aleksa Avramovic. Varese's 22-year-old guard from Serbia scored a game-high 29 points in 25 minutes of play. His last shot was blocked by Adrian Uter, but the ball came to the right man in the right corner, and Kangur kept his cool to win the game.

"It was just a split moment, you don't really have time to think," Kangur said afterwards. "I was lucky because I had missed some shots before and I made the big one. There are a lot of emotions right now, it was a tough and strange game but in the end we won, so that is the important thing."

ASVEL will have to feel bitter after leading for more than 27 minutes of the game. Nikola Dragovic gave them their final lead, 82-80, by hitting a triple with 40 seconds remaining, and Walter Hodge had a chance to seal the deal with ten seconds remaining. His two-pointer was off target, setting up the scene for Kangur.

Christian Eyenga and Melvin Johnson were both in double figures with 10 points each. Eric Maynor flirted went all-round for his eight points, seven rebounds and five assists. For heartbroken ASVEL, Hodge finished with 19 points and nine assists, Uter had 13 points and seven rebounds, and Dragovic added 12 points.
