Pinar Karsiyaka end Venezia streak with emphasis behind Brown's 36

IZMIR (Basketball Champions League) - Pinar Karsiyaka ended Umana Reyer Venezia's winning streak in emphatic fashion on Tuesday night.

Venezia were riding a five game Basketball Champions League, and ten game winning streak overall, coming into the game.

However, Karsiyaka made it a no-contest, avenging their Gameday 2 loss with a 99-59 triumph and getting hold of the top spot in Group B.

J’Covan Brown exploded for 36 points on 13 of 20 shooting, Muhammed Baygul had 23, whilst Dajuan Summers had 22, as the team shot 56.7% from the field for the game.

"I want to give credit to my teammates first," Brown said in the post-game press conference.

"We came out, played hard like Coach said, and he said the defensive end would determine the game between us winning and losing. We came out grabbed them by the neck and played Karsiyaka basketball and just kept going and kept going.

"We have to keep going from here. Venezia are a great team, they won ten in a row, but i felt like we prepared for this game, we were upset about the Efes Pilsen game and we just wanted to come out and get these two days off!"

Turkish league leaders Efes had throttled the Izmir club at the weekend, 96-70.

Pinar dominated the glass, but led by just 15 at halftime. In the third is where they did most of the damage, outscoring Venezia by 16 to open up a large lead.

"First of all, I must congratulate to the players," said Pinar Head Coach Nenad Markovic.

"Today they proved, what I'm trying to explain to them, that our defensive approach, our toughness must be high level, and when it's high level any other team have difficulties to play against us.

"We carry the positive energy from our good defence to easy scoring on the offence.

"...I believe the Italian team was not ready for Karsiyaka, as soon as we pick up the lead, they got frustrated by the fans, they got kind of scared and the difference was us going up and up."

Venezia were led by 13 points from Hrvoje Peric.
