Free-scoring Avtodor win race to century milestone

SARATOV (Basketball Champions League) – Avtodor Saratov were firing on all cylinders on Wednesday night and raced to an 113-84 triumph over Kataja Basket at home to improve to 2-0 in Group B. The Russian side won the unofficial race against Iberostar Tenerife to become the first team that scores a century in the competition, if only by approximately 10 minutes.

"We started the game in the way Coach wants us to play, we played hard defence and that allowed us to get a 40-point lead in the third quarter," said Avtodor big man Tomislav Zubcic. "I am glad that our fans could enjoy our game and we beat a team which maybe is not the biggest team but we played very smart against them. Everybody, the players, the fans enjoyed this big win."

Avtodor shot a mind-blowing 75% from two-point range as they run in transition with every half-chance they got and scored 22 of their points on the fast-break. Branden Frazier led the charge with 16 points and nine assists, Nick Minnerath and Zubcic had 15 points apiece while Michael Stockton came up with 13 points and eight assists.

"Today we played in the way we like, we were a running team that runs," said Avtodor head coach Sergey Mokin. "We improve our game step-by-step and we have to improve more, as a team and each player individually. We focus on the team and not on individuals. If you see teams like CSKA, Real Madrid or Barcelona they do not necessarily play all their bench when they take a big lead."
