Fraport Skyliners make Play-offs Qualifiers with Ironi Nahariya victory

FRANKFURT (Basketball Champions League) - Fraport Skyliners are through to the Play-offs Qualifiers after an 81-64 win over Ironi Nahariya on Wednesday evening.

The Skyliners make it through as one of the top-ranked fifth-place spots, completing the Group A regular season at .500 with a 7-7 record.

Kwame Vaughn had 20 points, A.J. English contributed with 14 points, and Quantez Robertson had a nice stat line of 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Fraport.

"I think the first half we didn't get back on defence and they were able to get some easy baskets and easy lay ups," Robertson commented.

"At halftime we made some adjustments on our defence and came out a lot more aggressive, rebounded the ball well and were able to make some open shots in the third to get the lead. We just came out and played together and had fun in the second half of the basketball game."

With Ironi getting the better of the early exchanges, Fraport fought back to tie it up at 38 at half time.

The Skyliners then asserted their dominance on the game in the third quarter, going on an 11-4 run to take the lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.

Ironi were unable to get back into the game, with 9 points being the closed they would get in the final quarter.

"I didn't like our first half," said Fraport Head Coach Gordon Herbert.

"I thought we gave up too many easy baskets, too many lay ups, too many inside. I thought our third quarter, we've got to give our players a lot of credit, they really bounced back with a great effort, responded well and came out with great intensity.

"This was our goal to advance to the next round, and that's what we've done, so we'll find out Friday what the situation is with who we play."

Jonathan Skjolderbrand led Ironi with 13 points, whilst Gates and Brown added 12 points-a-piece.

Ironi Nahariya will now move on to the FIBA Europe Cup, after failing to qualify for the Basketball Champions League Play-offs.
