Bejerano, Khimik lower the boom on Oradea

YUZHNE (Basketball Champions League) - Khimik blew away CSM CSU Oradea in the second half and claimed a 78-49 victory in Group B of the Basketball Champions League on Tuesday night.

Looking to keep their slim hopes of playing in the Europe Cup alive, Khimik got their third win of the season while damaging Oradea's bid to reach the Play-Offs by condemning them to their seventh defeat.

Daniel Bejerano came off the bench and had 19 points and 8 rebounds - both season-highs - for the winners.

Khimik, beaten by Oradea in the first meeting by three points, only led 38-32 at half-time but then outscored the visitors 19-11 in the third to take command for good.

They piled on the agony for Oradea in the fourth, scoring 21 more points while restricting the Romanian club to just 11.

Jamie Smith, the Ukrainian club's star performer this season, had another fine outing.

He finished with 14 points and 5 assists. Smith had gone into the game as the third leading scorer in the competition at 17.2ppg.

Khimik, who followed up last week's upset of Kataja Basket with another resounding victory, travel to Turkey to face Pinar Karsiyaka next week before wrapping up their Regular Season at home to Maccabi Rand Media.

Oradea will be at home next week when they try to bounce back against Kataja Basket. They will then face a difficult road trip to Italy to face Umana Reyer Venezia.
