AEK steal away victory at Partizan behind Ukic's dagger

BELGRADE (Basketball Champions League) - Roko Leni-Ukic hit a dagger three from way beyond the arc as AEK stole a 69-65 win over Partizan on Wednesday evening.

With AEK holding on to a slim two point lead and just over a minute left to play, Leni-Ukic came up clutch with a huge triple to provide a 5 point cushion and enough space for the Greek side to hold on.

With the result, AEK, Partizan and MHP RIESEN are now all tied at 8-5, but AEK holds a 3-1 advantage in that triangle, meaning they will secure the number two seed if they beat Zielona Gora in Athens next week.

Ukic went 4 of 6 from beyond the arc for his 13 points and added 8 assists, whilst Larentzakis did not miss a shot from the field on his way to 14 points. Donnie McGrath made his Basketball Champions League debut with 11 points.

"It was a huge win for us, very important win for us," said the 20 year old Georgios Tsalmpouris, who scored all 10 of his points in the first half.

"We played an amazing game today and we got a huge win."

AEK Head Coach Zdovc Jure was equally pleased with the victory:

"Congratulations to my players for the win. It's a big win for us, when you beat Partizan in Belgrade, I think it's maybe first time for me that I beat Partizan in Belgrade.

"The last 2-3 weeks we are good away, even if we lost this cup game in Aris by 1 point, I am very happy I convinced my players to forget that game and believe in themselves.

"Again, congratulations to my players, I want to wish Partizan all the best they have great coach, great team and it's a long season, they win a lot of games before us and I hope we will meet them in Final Four."

AEK almost led from start to finish, but could never quite get clear until Ukic's dagger. Partizan were led by Stefan Bircevic's 16 and 8 rebounds, but a barren spell in the final period where they were unable to convert for seven consecutive possessions proved to be their undoing.
