AEK stay perfect at Charleroi and 'want to win everything'

CHARLEROI (Basketball Champions League) – AEK Athens put in a convincing display in the second half of their Tuesday Group E clash with Proximus Spirou to secure an 80-58 win in Belgium and stretch their winning streak between the Basketball Champions League and the Greek A1 to five games.

The coach of the Athenian side, Jure Zdvoc, did not hide that his team's ambitions extend to much further than that. "We represent a team that wants to win everything and both myself and the players know that. We have high goals, we want to win everything, but we just take it game by game. It is our job to do this," the Slovenian tactician said at the post-game press conference.

Spirou gave the Greek side a hard-time for most of the first half but AEK returned from the locker-rooms determined to stifle their hosts. They held the Belgian side to just eight points in the third quarter and kept increasing the gap down the stretch. Croatian national team captain Roko Ukic was in inspirational form for the yellow-blacks, scoring 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the floor and adding two rebounds and two assists for an efficiency rating of 22.

"My players played really well in the second half, in the first half we did not run well in defensive transition, we did not make good rotations, we gave away easy baskets," said Zdovc.

"But after the break we responded very well, especially in the third quarter and the five-minute stretch of the fourth quarter. We could have made a few more open shots and won by a bigger margin, but what is more important is that we go the win."
